Co-ordination Action Co-ordination of Research on Genetic Resistance to Plant Pathogenic Viruses, and their Vectors, in European Crops FOOD-CT Food Quality and Safety

Title: International Conference on “Use of genetic resistance as a tool to control plant pathogenic viruses / vectors” Work package number: 6 Overview WP participants: CHALEX, INRA, NAGREF, USFD, IAM-BOKU, ICGEB, UNIMI, VUA WP leader: CSIC

To increase European students’ appreciation of these topics through a best paper from a thesis competition WP6 Objectives Review current research on the use of genetic resistance as a tool to control plant pathogenic viruses / vectors. Important aspects to be addressed will include: i) provide stakeholders with a review of current research ii) transfer know-how research/industrial partners iii) disseminate research results and aiding technology transfer iv) strengthening the bonds companies/scientific institutions v) increase awareness of intellectual property and industrial exploitation of technologies

VUA will organise a competition to select the best paper from a doctoral thesis published in the conference proceedings. This competition is designed to stimulate interest in the field from students and recent postdocts. This competition will only be open to those who did their research in the European Research Area. As part of the prize all expenses incurred in attending the conference will be reimbursed. The main prize will be an all expenses paid trip to a conference of the winner’s choice. This competition will be advertised on the web site and as part of the publicity for the conference. Competition to select best paper from a thesis
