WORKING GROUPS PROGRESS Objective: gap analysis & disease prioritization  Organized in 8 Subgroups by animal species:  Aquaculture  Bovine  Small Ruminants  Swine  Poultry  Equids  Minor Species (rabbits, wild animals, honey bees, etc.)  Companion and exotic animals  WG1 Coordinator: Representative of the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Maritime Affairs  Expertise on animal health and equal interest in all animal species.  Subgroups Coordinators: Each Subgroup is coordinated by a representative of the producers´ organizations in order to take into account their needs. WORKING GROUPS PROGRESS Working Group 1 tasks:  Submit a list of the major epizootic, zoonotic and animal production diseases affecting the different animal species.  Develop the prioritization model*:  Determine the prioritization criteria  Establish the scoring system for criteria.  Score each identified disease against the prioritization model. * Adapted from the DISCONTOOLS model. WORKING GROUPS PROGRESS Working Group 2 Objective: Identify, strengthen & promote the research areas that are necessary for the development of effective tools for controlling the animal diseases of priority for Spain. Coordinator: Research Community Representative (INIA) Tasks : To identify the existing research themes related to animal health that fall into the scope of Vet+i. To put into contact and promote the coordination between research centers/Universities and the industry. Actions to promote research in the industry. 12 3. WORKING GROUPS PROGRESS Working Group 3 Objective: To maximize & foster an efficient & rapid transfer of technology by identifying critical points and enabling factors. Coordinator: Animal Health Industry representative. Tasks : To identify the patents in the field of animal health that currently exist in Spain. To compile all the exploitable research results in AH in Spain. To create a database containing areas of interest to industry. To identify enabling factors and barriers to the efficient transfer of technology (Intellectual Property Rights, private-public partnership, etc.) – look for solutions Mirror Groups Meeting22/09/09

WORKING GROUPS PROGRESS Working Group 4 Objective: To propose recommendations in order to facilitate and accelerate the access to market of developed tools, optimizing the registration phase by the Regulatory Authorities. Coordinator: Spanish Medicines Agency representative. Tasks : To explore and define research themes in the areas of quality, safety and efficacy) in order to optimize the registration process in terms of cost and time. To identify the regulatory requirements that need be taken into account during the R&D of medicines. Analysis of the current regulatory situation of lack of medicines for MUMS. Registration process – Identify barriers & look for solutions. Post-marketing: Recommendation in terms of responsible use of veterinary medicines & pharmacovigilance Mirror Groups Meeting22/09/09

SECRETARIAT´S ACTIONS  Promotion the participation of Spanish partners in the 7FM & EMIDA calls for proposal:  Coordination meeting with  Participation in Conferences: Mirror Groups Meeting22/09/09 Meetings with INIA (Spanish representative at EMIDA) Inform participants about transnational call for proposals. Regular contact with CDTI (Spanish representative at the 7FP management committees) Forward to our participants all information received from CDTI regarding 7FM Encourage participants to make proposals for WP2010 and make suggestions to define WP2011.
