The 26 th CEOS Plenary – Bengaluru, India October, WGISS Highlights a. CEOS Requirements to WGISS A/I No. 25-6: WGISS to engage related agencies and to lead an investigation into the opportunities and obstacles for the interoperability of HMA and CWIC, providing a report and recommendations to CEOS-26  ESA recently provided an HMA POC to aid WGISS in the investigation of opportunities and obstacles for the interoperability of HMA and CWIC 3-year outcomes defined in course of the CEOS Self Study a.Advancing CWIC b.IDN development c.Support to development of CEOS Portals GEO Work Plan /CEOS-GEO Action a.POC of GEO WP Component IN-02-C1 b.Lead of CEOS-GEO Action  IN-03-C1_1  DI-01-C1_2  WA-01-C1_1 8 Slide 9~11 Slide 13 Slide 12

The 26 th CEOS Plenary – Bengaluru, India October, 2012 Contribution to GEOSS Data-CORE CWIC & IDN GEO has 8752* data collections tagged as geossDataCore. International Directory Network (IDN) provides geossDataCore tagging for 8264* US agencies (and INPE) data collections. IDN staff ready and willing to tag data collections from CEOS agencies as “geossDataCore” if requested. Tools available to register data collections in the IDN IDN provides collection metadata for over 21,942* data collections available to GEOSS. – Registering a data collection in the IDN in effect registers the data collection in GEOSS. – Recent registration : JAXA(221), NOAA/NODC(20) – A data collection must be registered in the IDN to be CWIC accessible. – IDN serves as the directory service for the CEOS community and for CWIC collections *9 October 2012 figures 9 The GEOSS Data Collection of Open Resources for Everyone (GEOSS Data-CORE) is a distributed pool of documented datasets with full and open unrestricted access at no more than the cost of reproduction and distribution” 8264 via IDN (~94%) Total : from others

The 26 th CEOS Plenary – Bengaluru, India October, 2012 Data Accessible from CWIC a.CEOS WGISS Integrated Catalog (CWIC) provides access to 1,742* data collections with inventories – to Client Partners and to GEO Partners. b.Current Data Partners include NOAA, NASA, USGS, INPE, AOE, JAXA, SST Virtual Constellation (GHRSST/NODC). USGS and INPE provide access to operational databases AOE added 3 rd data center, CRESDA (HJ1A, HJ1B, CBERS01, CBERS02, CBERS2B), in addition to Beijing-1 (BJ-1)and NSMC/Feng-Yun (FY3A, FY2D, FY2E) data centers. NOAA and NASA provide access to their operational systems. NOAA will enable access to unrestricted data in CLASS when the new API is released in 2013 NASA working to make all EO unrestricted online satellite data accessible from CWIC. JAXA is a new data partner (prototype), and will provide search to about 200 data collections (~16 million granules). SST VC (GHRSST/NODC) adding ~ 60 data collections (~2.3 million granules) LSI team adding additional data to CWIC through the USGS CWIC connection. CCRS will make Radarsat-1 & Radarsat-2 accessible from CWIC ISRO announced plans to become a CWIC Data Partner 10 *9 October 2012 figures

The 26 th CEOS Plenary – Bengaluru, India October, 2012 CWIC, IDN & Tech. Exploration IG a.CWIC Client Partners Current Client Partners include LSI Portal CWIC-Start, a NASA sponsored client for CEOS community science users CCRS agency portal b.IDN Development/Population New RESTful web services are now available that provides dynamic access to IDN content. Initiated communication with ISRO to exchange collection metadata c.Technology Exploration Interest Group (IG) Surveying existing “Collection Level” quality metadata within WGISS member agency products and provide a report by WGISS-35 (towards joint efforts with WGCV) Documenting different quality activities that are happening in the WGISS member community. Investigating User Registration methods within CWIC data partner data systems to support data access. Promoting WGISS member agency data access tools and services via technology showcases at WGISS meetings 11

The 26 th CEOS Plenary – Bengaluru, India October, 2012 Data Stewardship IG a.Data Management Statement for IN-02-C1_1 Released in April 2012 WGISS & ESA HMA Compilation b.Browse Statement for IN-02-C1 Expected by December 2012 c.Archive Environmental Monitoring Network Canada, Brazil, China, UK, US d.Data Purge Alert System Being Used e.Updating Browse Guidelines Document 12 Contribution to GEO WP Component IN-02-C1

The 26 th CEOS Plenary – Bengaluru, India October, 2012 GA.4.Disasters & Water Portal Projects a.GEOSS Architecture for Disasters Project Accomplishments Investigated case studies (e.g earthquake in China) and pilots (e.g. Namibia flood pilot) to evaluate the use of satellites for disaster management and documented a structured reference model architecture (processes involved, stakeholder needs/constraints) Next the project will review the architecture with stakeholders and develop recommendations for CEOS and GEOSS 13 a.CEOS Water Portal Project The portal can be accessed at “ Will contribute to “7.2 Data Acquisition and Distribution ” in GEO Water Cycle Strategy Contribution to CEOS-GEO Action DI-01-C1_2 Contribution to CEOS-GEO Action WA-01-C1_1
