6 Innovation Energie Développement Project Objectives 1.Improve affordability, quality, safety and sustainability of rural electricity in Cambodia and Laos. 2.Establish a high quality vocational technical training courses specially designed for the rural electricity operators, existing and potential, in Laos and Cambodia –Business management for energy service companies –Generator types and fuel sources –Energy efficiency, technical standards and government licensing requirements –Diesel generator sizing, operation and maintenance. –Design and maintenance of distribution network –Practical skills and techniques for O&M and Safety

7 Innovation Energie Développement Project Strategy Basic Aim:  To improve the efficiency, safety and sustainability of private rural energy providers Key Barrier:  Lack of technical knowledge, skills and procedures with respect to designing, operating and maintaining a rural energy system  Lack of theory, skills and experience in managing a business Solution:  Develop an intensive training course that is customised for the particular needs and context of each country, and accepted by all relevant stakeholders  Establish the course at a reputable training institution in each country so that over time it becomes a normal part of any rural energy business’ training requirements.

8 Innovation Energie Développement Main Activities –Review and context study of vocational technical training issues in Cambodia and Laos. –Survey of training needs for rural electrification operator and students –Design curriculum guidelines and organise related review workshop –Design a business case for ITC and NUoL –Design and produce curriculum kits, organise review workshop and translate the kits into Khmer and Laos –Training of trainers –Pilot courses for target REEs and PESCOs
