3 Slide 3 Novice Teen Driver Education and Training Administrative Standards The NTDETAS, published in 2009, are a key highway safety countermeasure for states to use in improving teen driver safety. The ANSTSE was established to maintain and enhance these standards.

5 Slide 5 Novice Teen Driver Education and Training Administrative Standards The Novice Teen Driver Education and Training Administrative Standards serve to guide all novice teen driver education and training programs in States striving to provide quality, consistent driver education and training. Administering education standards and policies are a State’s right, these standards were created to serve as an anchor for State policies on driver education and training.

7 Slide 7 NTDETAS Strategic Plan Revisions Revise the current NTDETAS Strategic Plan developed in 2012. Identify accomplishments to-date (i.e., new standards). Identify new strategies and priorities for driver education for the coming years.

8 Slide 8 NTDETAS Revisions The revised Administrative Standards will consist of: 1.Program Administration 2.Education and Training a.Classroom and BTW Delivery Standards b.Online Delivery Standards 3.Instructor Qualifications a.Teacher Training Standards and Support Materials 4.Parental Involvement 5.Coordination with Driver Licensing Appendix E & F; Content Standards

9 Slide 9 Classroom and BTW Delivery Standards The delivery standards will provide minimum guidelines for delivering driver education on a number of important topics (e.g., class size, length of class per period, sequencing of classroom and BTW, teacher/student ratio, type of classroom, driver education car requirements).

10 Slide 10 Classroom and BTW Delivery Standards Focus exclusively on the “How” to deliver driver education instruction. These delivery standards establish the process for “How” driver education is delivered in an effort to improve the overall quality of instructional delivery methods which benefit the novice learning driver.

16 Slide 16 Teacher Training Standards The NTDETAS Teacher Training System will serve as a resource for NHTSA, the Association, national traffic safety organizations, national driver education organizations, state agencies and driver education providers to further the efforts to improve driver education on a national level.

17 Slide 17 Teacher Training Standards The objective of this project is to develop a system for the training of driver education teachers nationwide, including the development of model teacher training materials and recommendations for the certification of driver education teachers.

23 Slide 23 Content Standards The Content Standards are comprised of two documents: the ADTSEA Curriculum Standards and the DSAA Content Standards. The purpose of these documents is to serve as model standards to aide in the development of curricula and other teaching materials. Currently under revisions by ADTSEA and DSAA.

24 Slide 24 ANSTSE/NTDETAS Technical Assistance State driver education programs can request technical assistance from ANSTSE, at no cost to the state, to assist with adopting and implementing the standards and to make improvements in driver education. For more information visit www.anstse.info.

26 Slide 26 Summary of Current Projects for 2015 - 2016 1.Finalize development of the Classroom and BTW Delivery Standards, the Online Delivery Standards and Teacher Training Standards. 2.Revise and update the NTDETAS Standards to include the new standards and address any needed changes in the current standards. 3.Revise the NTDETAS Strategic Plan. 4.Provide Technical Assistance to the States.

Support and encourage the adoption and implementation the NTDETAS Administrative and Content Standards. Support and encourage the adoption and implementation of the revised NTDETAS Standards when completed and published.
