A-Gas II- Video Detection for Damage Prevention Kickoff Meeting Kickoff Meeting July 27, 2009 New York, NY P&L E-Communications, LLC

PLE Background Current customers include Iberdrola EMS & Security, Lockheed Martin, Air Force Research Labs, Hanscom Air Force Base, Kandahar AFB, Afghanistan, Tennessee Air National Guard, and NYSEARCH. Current partners include NYSEG, RG&E, Day Automation, D3 Engineering, AXIS, ONSSI. We use contracts with University of Rochester, and Rochester Institute of Technology to access consulting for all research projects.

A-GAS I is the only product that can detect excavating events only, even in busy area PLE is well positioned with local vendors/suppliers to fulfill multiple orders PLE has already initiated hardware that will run A-GAS II via in-kind funding RGE and Con Edison has expressed interest in A-GAS II PLE Uniquely Qualified

A-GAS 1 What We Did Collected video data in Rochester Adapted our video software to detect excavating activity Two test sites successfully completed: Suburban: Scottville Road- RGE Urban: E 16 St - Con Edison Scottsville and Con Ed working on accuracy of detections P & L E-Communications, LLC 1900 Ridge Road East, Rochester, NY Phone Fax P & L E-Communications, LLC 1900 Ridge Road East, Rochester, NY Phone Fax P & L E-Communications Proprietary

Summary of Results Test DatesTotal # Events Positive Alarms No Alarm - Obscured Detection Rate November % Test DatesTotal # Events Positive Alarms No Alarm - Obscured Detection Rate July l thru August % August 14 – October % September 23 Demo % Scottsville Road – RG&E E16 St & Ave C – Con Edison

How we achieved results Our unique ability to ignore non-threatening activity in video and accurately detect digging without database signatures (on-the-fly) was accomplished using the following techniques: Tracking repetitive motion Timing the motion activity Using multi-level timing of motion activity Measure and track an anchor distance from possible alarm activity

A-Gas I Total Weight Approximately 400 lbs for a four camera kit.

A-GAS II

Phase II Project Tasks 3.1 Final Design & Product Acquisition of AVT H/W Software to be adapted for A-GAS II Hardware paid by PLE and provided as in-kind contribution 3.2 Lab Testing & Data gathering Record video of scripted damage intrusions for semi-live testing 3.22 Run semi-live testing in lab to compare A-GAS I with A- GAS II and ensure no functionality is lost with A-GAS II 3.3 Field Testing – Work with member companies to demonstrate A-GAS II in real-world environment at two sites (TBD)

Phase II Objectives Evaluate additional techniques to identify potentially hazardous activity like monitoring object height oscillation and cueing off of color to change sensitivity Incorporate new algorithms for enhanced tracking capabilities for overlapping objects Optimize software adaptations from Phase I for A-GAS II embedded processing platform Integrate wireless alarm communications to remote networked devices Design mounting mechanism for A-GAS II

A-GAS II – Requirements Rugged enough for field use Easy to install-pole mount system Remote wireless alarm to computer/PDA Reduced power Enhanced detection software Relative low cost

Schedule

Deliverables Project deliverables will consist of: Two (2) universal tested commercial grade beta- prototype A-GAS II devices (small form factor) with universal cameras and mounts. Installation Procedures Operation Procedures Documented Status Final Report Up to two (2) training sessions for member company representatives. Deployment Options A-Gas I Rapidly Deployable Kit (Tested in Phase I) A-Gas I Rapidly Deployable Kit (Tested in Phase I) AVT Hardware kit with security software adapted for damage prevention along pipeline right-of-ways. Kit includes cameras, tripods, power inverters, cables, and AVT-RMU with adapted software. This is available now to be integrated for remote via wireless or cell networks. A-Gas II (To be Tested in this Phase II) we have small form factor security device HW to adapt to damage prevention applications similar to Phase I. This new device is smaller and needs less power. We plan to implement an IP interface to allow remote monitoring and alerting to be done using Internet Browser. Deployment Options – Cont. PLE is currently researching and developing a mobile trailer solution to provide another option for deploying the Phase I solution in to the field for remote monitoring of construction around pipelines. The concept currently being worked is to develop a tow-behind trailer with standard power and communication to allow the same system to be used for damage prevention during the day and security monitoring at night.

We Need Help Field test support Final test sites Real world applications for A-GAS I and II
