Billy Beane’s Diary

Dear diary, Today on my high school baseball team I hit three homeruns in a single game. I am by far the best on the team and have a.500 batting average. I will definitely be able to get into the Major Leagues

Dear diary, Today I was surrounded by scouts from MLB teams. They all have me as one of their first round draft picks. This school has never had scouts visiting before.

Dear diary, Today I got accepted to Stanford University and to the Mets minor league team. Being on the Mets minor league team will make it much easier for me to get in the Major Leagues. It’s a tough decision but I think I will go with the Mets over Stanford.

Dear diary, Today I struck out twice in one game. I was so angry I slammed the bat against the wall and it bent at a 90˚ angle. I don’t know what happened. I am loosing my talent. I am starting to think that I won’t be able to make it to the big leagues. I think I should have gone to Stanford but it is too late now.

Dear diary, Today it has been months of minor league games and I think I am going to quit. I’m not going to be able to get into the Major Leagues but I am going to become the general manager of the Oakland A’s.

Dear diary, Today I realized that the scouts and teams made a mistake in thinking that I am some kind of prodigy. They were not looking at the correct statistics but I know what statistics are important. Teams are drafting the wrong people but I know how to draft the right people. I have to try to prove that amateur players are being drafted wrong.
