Level 3 Language Arts with Ms. Sheri Lesson 39 OW Rough Draft

We have already learned one pronunciation for the diphthong ow- /ow/ as in clown. OW Today we will learn another- /ō/ as in snow.

snow low grow mow glow own crow bow row OW

show stow grow blow bowl flow yellow pillow willow OW

sparrow sown elbow blown widow grown shadow flown lowly OW

thrown slowly growth crowbar hollow mellow follow fellow OW

This is the end of the phonics lesson for today. You will practice what you learned with the OW worksheet.

Rough Draft In lesson 38, we learned about planning to write an opinion piece. We used an idea web to organize our ideas. Now we will begin the second step in the writing process called a rough draft.

Rough Draft When you first begin writing, do not worry about making mistakes. You are just writing the rough draft. After you have written this first draft, you can make corrections and changes. For now, just write.

Rough Draft Here are some things to keep in mind when writing. Stay on topic. Include all the important details. Use complete sentences.

Rough Draft I will show you an example of how I would write a rough draft. The first thing I will do is look over the idea web I created in lesson 38.

North Carolina is an amazing state. Opinion Is on the coastHas mountains The first flight was in Kitty Hawk Climate is mild. Fact

North Carolina is an amazing state. The climate is mild and the winters are short. Temperatures are not too hot or cold. North Carolina has lots of beaches. I love to go to the beach. Kitty Hawk is a very famous coastal town because the Wright brothers flew the first airplane there. The Appalachian Mountains are also in North carolina.

Rough Draft Can you see how I used my idea web to create my rough draft? Now it's your turn. Get out your own idea web from lesson 38 or create a new one before you get started.

Assignment: 1.Complete the OW worksheet 2. Use idea web to write rough draft 3. Read Little Joe Otter Has Great News to Tell from The Adventures of Buster Bear 4. Pick two prompt from the Reading Response Prompts list and write responses in journal Good bye
