Pronouns A word that takes the place of a noun Examples: she them ours it

Verbs An action or state of being Examples: jog been write kill

Adjectives Modify nouns Examples: Crafty (The crafty dog escaped again!) content excellent ambitious

Adverbs Modify adjectives, verbs, and other adverbs Examples: feebly fearlessly soon rapidly

Conjunctions A word that connects other words, clauses, phrases, or sentences. Examples: FANBOYS: For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so Other conjunction examples: because, moreover, therefore, however

Prepositions Used before a noun or pronoun to express a relation to another word or phrase in the sentence. Examples: under around within after The blanket was on the couch.

Interjections An exclamatory expression of emotion. Examples: Geez! Ughhh! Hooray! Wow!
