The Fall of Saul and the Call of David Freshman Religion Chapter 5 – Part 2 Kings

Saul Had Lost Favor with God He had become unfaithful and disregarded the rules of God He had put his personal gain ahead of what was right for Israel. All that Samuel and God had predicted was coming true. He was losing favor with the people and his Army

The Call Of David God sent Samuel to the house of Jesse who was a Shepard in Bethlehem. Jesse had many sons – but Samuel chose the youngest – David David was anointed by Samuel to be the servant of God. David was a young Boy! Who could play the Harp! And was great with a sling shot!

David and Goliath Saul was at war with Philistines and the Israelites were afraid of their warrior Goliath. No one would fight and Saul and his army were laughed at by their opponents. David came to bring food to his brothers who were in Saul’s army. M.com

Saul and David Saul at first loved David who played his Harp to keep Saul Calm. David goes and lives in Saul’s court and become close friends with his son Jonathon As they grew together David and Jonathon won many battles for Israel. Saul was becoming Jealous!

David and Saul (cont.) As David grew older he and his best Jonathon became more powerful. David falls in love with Saul’s Daughter and Saul allows them to marry. Saul hopes his children will turn against David and help Saul have them killed. Both Jonathon and his sister defend David and with die at the hands of the Philistines. Saul Kills himself.

David Becomes The Second King of Israel. Under his reign Israel reaches its zenith He fights off all of the Pagans and establishes Jerusalem as the capital and trading mecca of the world. Israel was never stronger!

David’s Sin Against God Fell in love with a woman named Bathsheba Met her while she was bathing in a public bath The had an affair and Bathsheba gets pregnant!

DAVID DIGS A BIGGER HOLE David tries to cover up his sin by allowing Uri to see Bathsheba! When he resists, he makes it easy for him to get Killed! Against Nathan's advice David Panics and has Uri called home from Battle. Being a good soldier Uri resists and says No! David has Abner put Uri on the front lines. He dies, and David marries Bathsheba!

God Punishes David Their Baby is stillborn Bathsheba becomes barren David becomes depressed as he wanted a son with Bathsheba. Thanks to Nathan he repents and writes the Psalms to ask God’s forgiveness. om Psalm 69- Save me Oh Lord!

God Forgives David and Bathsheba Gave them a son –They named Solomon! David redeemed himself with God and Israel returned to Greatness and in God’s Love! 4.com Psalm 139

David’s Covenant with God Solomon would get the Birth Rite and become the next King even though he was the youngest of David’s sons. Solomon would be a peace time king! Solomon would build a Temple to God in honor of his father David.
