Extending the delivery of Bikeability

Characteristics of Effective teaching and learning In the best lessons the following characteristics will be in evidence: Good subject knowledge effective planning Learning objectives clearly planned and shared with the children Suitable strategies chosen to deliver learning objectives effectively High levels of expectation and challenge Use of prior learning and assessment to inform planning, target setting and provision for individuals Thorough and constructive on going assessment Pupils feel valued and are actively involved in the learning process Children are encouraged to achieve well and are given opportunities to enjoy a genuine sense of achievement Independent work is encouraged

Achieving through S.T.E.P? Is part of the Inclusion Spectrum. Many people think inclusion is S.E.N.D. We all learn in different ways – does one size fit all? An inclusive approach which enables learners to KNOW, UNDERSTAND and APPLY the outcomes to their lifestyle.

What is the Inclusion Spectrum?

Open activity: A simple activity based on what the entire group can do with little or no modification Modified activity: An activity in which everyone does the same activity with adaptations to challenge the more able and support the inclusion of everyone Parallel activity: Participants are grouped according to ability – each doing the same activity, but at appropriate levels Separate activity: An individual or group do a purposefully planned different activity Disability sport activity: A specific sport designed to cater for a variety of disabilities

S.T.E.P. S pace T ask E quipment P eople

The 5 C’s Competence – ensure knowledge and understanding of the skill Confidence – allow practice of the skill until embedded(play add 1) Character – ensure each learner has the K&U, does one size fit all? Collaborate – allow them to practice in small groups, actively collaborating Creative – allow them to own the learning, make decisions, take control

Teaching Position for Learners and Instructors Eyes See – Assessment: body language etc. Brain Listens – Decision: What am I going to do? Body Does. – Action: Intervention
