2 ♯ TVPEConf Outcomes This workshop will provide resources & ideas on: How to make your PE and School Sport more inclusive for SEND pupils How to offer increased opportunities for SEND pupils to engage in meaningful competition within the School Games Programme

3 ♯ TVPEConf What is Inclusion? In small groups briefly discuss what ‘inclusion’ means to you & provide a definition ‘a sense of belonging: feeling respected, valued for who you are, feeling a level of supportive energy and commitment from others so that you can do your best’ (Miller & Katz 2002)

7 ♯ TVPEConf How inclusive is your PE & SS? Physical Education What training have your staff had to ensure they are confident in the delivery of inclusive Physical Education? How do you know ALL pupils are fully engaged and having a positive experience in PE lessons? School Sport /Extracurricular What opportunities are you providing to cater for ALL young people in your school and are your SEND pupils accessing it? Where this is delivered by an external provider are you confident of their knowledge and expertise in the delivery of inclusive opportunities?

8 ♯ TVPEConf How inclusive are your competitive opportunities? Level 1 Competition (intra) What inclusive opportunities at Level 1 are you providing (including your Level 1 Sainsbury's School Games Day)? Are you providing meaningful level 1 competitive opportunities in a range of sports/formats endorsed on the School Games Website? Level 2 Competition (inter) Are you aware of inclusive Level 2 competitive opportunities in your area? What strategies do you have in place to overcome potential barriers which may prevent young people with SEND from accessing Level 2 competitive opportunities? When entering Level 2 events you will sometimes be asked to classify your young people. Do you have the knowledge and confidence to do this?

9 ♯ TVPEConf Inclusion Spectrum Open activity – simple activity based on what the entire group can do with little/no modification Modified activity - everyone does the same activity with adaptations to challenge the more able and support the inclusion of everyone Separate activity – an individual or group do a purposefully planned different activity Parallel activity – participants are grouped according to ability, each doing the same activity but at appropriate levels

11 ♯ TVPEConf Resources The Active Kids Paralympic Challenge will inspire schools and young people to learn more about Paralympic sports & try them out.
