Turbine Crane

Walk downs Review instructions to ensure workable and adequate Right Parts/materials/tools Permits Relevant Operating Experience Turbine Crane

Pre Job Briefs Understand the Task Critical Steps identified and OE used AND what actions are being taken in reference to these two areas Two Minute Drills: Hazards identified AND what are actions are you taking Turbine Crane

Procedure Use & Adherence WO / procedure in hand & latest revision Place keepers being used Sign steps as you go Follow & understand steps - STOP if can't or don't Turbine Crane

TURBINE CRANE Terminal Objective Given references provided by the Instructor, the Plant Electrician will maintain Turbine Building Cranes as demonstrated by achieving a minimum of 80% on a written examination. Turbine Crane

Multi Stud Tensioner.

PRE-JOB BRIEF Identify Critical Steps Identify Error Precursors Worst thing that can happen Error prevention defenses to be used Actions to assure proper configuration control Turbine Crane

TURBINE CRANE EO 1.10 Describe the safety and human performance factors associated with the Turbine Building Crane.

Generic Personal Safety Aspects associated with the Turbine Building Crane Energized Equipment – Use 01DP-0IS13 for electrical safety requirements. Rules to live by #2 What is the maximum voltage you could encounter while performing maintenance or troubleshooting the Turbine Building Crane? What are the Electrical Safety and Flash Protection requirements needed to enter walkway cabinet #3 with power available? Turbine Crane

01DP-0IS13 Turbine Crane

Generic Personal Safety Aspects associated with the Turbine Building Crane Fall Hazards – Fall Protection required when working outside of the walkway (i.e. motor inspect/lube, trolley platform work, etc…) Rules to live By #5 Turbine Crane

Where and how to tie off Turbine Crane

Generic Personal Safety Aspects associated with the Turbine Building Crane Keep hands free when climbing up or down ladders. Articles too large for the pockets or belts should be lifted to or lowered from the crane by a hand line & canvas bag. Take care that loose parts and tools do not fall to the floor beneath. (Especially on Trolley) Secure tools and test equipment to the crane if conditions require such action. Do not wear loose or torn clothing which may be caught in the movable parts of the crane. S&E - Dropped Items Turbine Crane

Generic Personal Safety Aspects associated with the Turbine Building Crane – During operational verification observe: Pinch points and crush potentials Clearance areas (overhead) – Many industry OE when working on the crane. – OE Indian Point 2 – Worker fractures back while changing light bulbs on the crane. Tools are secure (dropped items) Turbine Crane

Personal Safety and HU Aspects associated with the PLC / VFD Controls – Troubleshooting of PLC and VFD equipment (in most cases) must be performed in an energized condition, ensure the following: Ensure that personnel remain clear of rotating and moving equipment and proper fall protection is worn (where applicable) in the event that unexpected motion occurs. If the PLC processor is in RUN mode, motion can occur as soon as faults are cleared. Also, when the faults are cleared, several outputs will most likely become energized at this point in time. Turbine Crane

Personal Safety and HU Aspects associated with the PLC / VFD Controls – Troubleshooting of PLC and VFD equipment (in most cases) must be performed in an energized condition, ensure the following: Use extreme caution when Forcing Points. All Force Points will be enabled at the same time so be careful to verify the status of Forces prior to proceeding. Turbine Crane

Personal Safety and HU Aspects associated with the PLC / VFD Controls – Troubleshooting of PLC and VFD equipment (in most cases) must be performed in an energized condition, ensure the following: If operation of a VFD is performed locally, be aware of potential for injury as the drive may supply power to its associated motor as soon as the RUN command is selected. Turbine Crane

Personal Safety and HU Aspects associated with the PLC / VFD Controls – Troubleshooting of PLC and VFD equipment (in most cases) must be performed in an energized condition, ensure the following: In the event of certain brake faults (BE6), ensure the crane is placed in a safe condition and the load is placed on the floor prior to deenergizing the associated VFD. A loss of load control may be the result as the drive is now holding the load in a safe condition. Turbine Crane

Personal Safety and HU Aspects associated with the PLC / VFD Controls – Troubleshooting of PLC and VFD equipment (in most cases) must be performed in an energized condition, ensure the following: Follow the guidance of Electrical Safe Work Practices when any interaction may occur with voltages >50V. – VFD’s operate off of 480Vac and have a DC bus voltage that can exceed 800Vdc – Take precautions for stored energy in the form of capacitance. VFD DC bus voltage light goes out at <50vdc Turbine Crane

Personal Safety and HU Aspects associated with the PLC / VFD Controls – Ensure the Pre-Job Brief and Two-Min Drill are adequate for the situation at hand. Some items to consider: – Is there a load suspended??? – Is there a crane operator available??? – Type of failure (if known)??? – Time of year (ie. temperature considerations and stay times.)??? – Location of the crane if failure was associated with the bridge???
