I will be able to examine a piece of writing to identify strengths and weaknesses.

Closing Paragraph Outline Reworded Thesis (subtopics said in a different way) Similar Factors (how do all of the ideas/facts come together to help prove your thesis?) Full Circle (revisit the hook you used at the beginning of the essay) I will be able to write a conclusion paragraph re-establishing topic and restating a thesis statement.

(Statistic) Introductory The Pacific Coast Trail spans 2,650 from Mexico to Canada. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people hike a portion of the trail. About one thousand attempt to hike all the way through; only half finish. Not only did Cheryl Stray do it, but she did it alone. In her autobiographical adventure Wild, she travels along the Pacific Coast Trail in search of many things. Cheryl, who is suffering from many losses besides the loss of her mother, hopes to find inner peace, who she is and what is best for her next while on a dangerous journey. Cheryl and Doug show examples of heroism throughout the story. (Full Circle) Conclusion Undoubtedly, Cheryl and Doug go through and survive many hostile environments as true heroes. Between Cheryl’s courage while facing the wolf in the snow, and Doug’s bravery when his family was starving along the desert, true heroism emerged and leaders took over with calm heads to settle situations that could have ended disastrously. Cheryl Stray did this not just the one incident with the wolf, but for her entire adventure on the Pacific Coast Trail, alone; she is a true hero. I will be able to write a conclusion paragraph re-establishing topic and restating a thesis statement.

(Anecdote) Introduction My family and I enjoy hiking along Sandy Hook Beach. Our favorite time is in the winter when the crowds are gone. Of course it’s colder and we can escape the harsh conditions when we need to. Quite different from Cheryl Stray’s hike along the Pacific Coast Trail. Unlike my family (who likely would have found shelter from the storm, before the wolf ever came around looking for prey) Cheryl and Doug are true heroes in the face of danger. I will be able to write a conclusion paragraph re-establishing topic and restating a thesis statement.

Introductory Paragraph Outline (Quote) Introduction “…the death of my mother was the thing that made me believe the most deeply in my safety: nothing bad could happen to me, I thought. The worst thing already had,” was spoken by author Cheryl Strayed. As Cheryl mentioned, losing her mother was the worst thing that had ever happened; facing a wolf couldn’t possibly be any worse. Because of this, she was able to fearlessly do what she needed to do to survive, sign of a true hero. I will be able to write a conclusion paragraph re-establishing topic and restating a thesis statement.

Goals for Today: RE-STATED THESIS: Without a doubt, __________ and __________ show examples of heroism throughout the story. Or Undoubtedly, __________ and __________ show examples of heroism throughout the story. Use this “fill in the blank” format for your essay Revise for:

Do Later Before we leave, switch conclusion paragraphs with someone in your row. Have they reworded their thesis statement? Please give feedback to your peer. I will be able to write a conclusion paragraph re-establishing topic and restating a thesis statement.
