Response to Intervention RTI

A Three Tiered System Tier 3 Individual or very small group intervention (1-3 kids) Tier 2 Small-group intervention (5-6 kids) Tier 1 Classroom instruction National Trend

St. Joseph Trend 61% 29% 10% Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3

Tier 1 - Classroom instruction This is balanced literacy instruction used in our classrooms.

Tier 2 - Small-group intervention Tier 1 assessments determine eligibility for tier 2 participation. Tier 2 is conducted out of the general education classroom / conducted by a reading teacher with extensive training in phonemic awareness, formative assessment, and the technology used to manage the assessments. More intense intervention lasting anywhere from weeks. Phonemic awareness instruction.

Tier 3 –Intense, low student / teacher ratio Tier 2 students not demonstrating progress through phonemic awareness instruction. Very focused Instruction similar to reading recovery focus on reading strategies. Students would not be considered for tier 3 until they have demonstrated a lack of progress in tier 2.

How is it assessed? DIBELS and TRC TRC= text reading comprehension DIBELS= 6 measures ISF- Initial sound fluency LNF- Letter name fluency PSF Phoneme segmentation fluency NWF- Nonsense word fluency WUF- Word use fluency DORF- Daily oral reading fluency
