Postpartum Depression

A moderate to severe depression in a woman after she has given birth. It may occur soon after delivery or up to a year later. Most of the time, it occurs within the first 3 months after delivery. 80% of new mothers get baby blues 10%-20% of new mothers get PPD

Causes Higher Risk  Hormonal changes from and after pregnancy  Lack of Sleep  Stress  History of depression with you or close family  Unwanted pregnancy  Marital or financial problems  Under age of 20

Symptoms of PPD  Sadness  Anger  Feeling of worthlessness or guilt  Feeling withdrawn or unconnected  Loss of energy  Anxiety  Irritability  Trouble sleeping  Thoughts of death or suicide  Little interest in baby  Negative feelings toward the baby
