3 What are the many moods of heart failure? Anxiety and Fear Sadness and Depression Irritability and Anger Frustration Guilt Loneliness

4 What else can happen because of mood changes May be less likely to follow the treatment plan Slower recovery Anger and stress can make the heart rate and blood pressure go up, making the heart work harder On-going depression can increase the risk of having more cardiac events

5 How do you recognize mood changes? Fatigue “Down mood” Irritability Sleep pattern changes Appetite changes Lack of interest Withdrawal Excessive worry, tension Hopelessness Feeling worthless Outbursts of anger

7 When do you seek help? If symptoms are severe, long lasting or do not get better When the symptoms interfere with your daily routine or affect your quality of life You feel that life is not worth living or have thoughts of death or suicide
