C PRONOUNS

A Pronoun takes the place of a noun. For example, instead of saying: The campers carried food in the camper’s backpack. We replace the second noun with a pronoun and say: The campers carried food in their backpacks. Therefore, the pronoun their takes the place of the noun campers.

List of familiar pronouns: Heyouours Sheyourmy Weyoursits Usminetheirs Theyhertheir Theirhisit

The two types of pronouns we will discuss is the Personal Pronoun and the Demonstrative Pronoun.

The Personal Pronoun Personal pronouns refer to the person speaking, the person listening or reading, the topic (person place or thing) being discussed. Types of personal pronouns Subject pronounReflexive Object pronoun Possessive pronoun

Subject Pronoun These pronouns are the subject of a sentence For example: I found the ball. He is my friend. She likes to play volleyball.

Object Pronoun These pronouns are the object of the sentence. For example: Matt gave the ball to me. The horse jumped it. The teacher gave the test to him.

Possessive pronoun These pronouns show possession. For example: The jacket is mine. Her picture is beautiful. Is that yours?

Demonstrative Pronouns These pronouns point out a person place or thing. For example: That is a great book to read. Are those my papers on the back table? This is the best movie! Are these things hard to make?

Antecedent- the noun the pronoun refers back to in a sentence Pronouns have an antecedent. This is the noun that the pronoun refers back to in the sentence. For Example: The kids are walking to their school this morning. The pronoun their refers back to the noun kids.

Reflexive Pronoun- a pronoun that refers back to the subject of a sentence. For Example: I am going to cook dinner all by myself. The pronoun myself is a reflexive pronoun because it refers back to the subject I.
