2. The Pronoun  A pronoun is used to substitute a noun (person or thing).  To decide if a word is a pronoun, you need to ask yourself – “ does it substitute a noun? ” For example: Jack plays his oboe every evening. He is learning very fast. ( ‘ He ’ is used instead of repeating ‘ Jack ’

Personal Pronouns The most common type of pronoun; used to stand in place of a person, name or thing e.g. When Barnaby stroked the cat and listened to the cat purring softly, Barnaby felt calm and peaceful. Becomes ….. When Barnaby stroked the cat and listened to it purring softly, he felt calm and peaceful

5. Different uses of personal pronouns For singular nouns For plural nouns When pronoun is SUBJECT I, you, he, she, it We, you, they When pronoun is OBJECT Me, you, him, her, it Us, you, them When pronoun BELONGS Mine, yours, his, hers, its Ours, yours, theirs

6. Replace the noun  Emily went out to find her parents  The teachers asked John if John was feeling better  “ I think this book is yours, John ”, the teacher said.  It isn ’ t your book, its my book!
