Copyright - Disaster Resistant Communities Group – To facilitate an internet based tornado protective action / initial response tabletop exercise for Leon County’s Schools. The mission will be to assess the operational knowledge of exercise participants regarding their role in responding to a significant weather event in North Florida. Exercise Scope

Copyright - Disaster Resistant Communities Group – To enhance the disaster protective action / initial response knowledge of individual school Crisis Response Teams with regards to the Leon County School District’s Emergency Operations Plan. Exercise Purpose

Copyright - Disaster Resistant Communities Group – It is early February and the severe weather associated with a cold front moving through the region prompts the Tallahassee Forecast Office of the National Weather Service to issue a Tornado Watch for North Florida from 4:00AM until 12:00PM. At 10:11AM, meteorologists at the National Weather Service notice what appears to be the formation of a tornado on their doppler weather radar. They immediately issue a Tornado Warning. Over the next several hours, numerous Tornado Warnings are issued throughout the area. Exercise Scenario

Copyright - Disaster Resistant Communities Group – Everyone from your school’s Crisis Response Team who will be participating in the exercise is required to have registered by 5:00PM EDST Friday October 8. Leading up to the start of the exercise registered participants will receive several situational awareness e- mails that will assist in setting the stage for the exercise. On the morning of October 12 participants will take part in the exercise as members of their school’s Crisis Response Team. Exercise Participation

Copyright - Disaster Resistant Communities Group – Your school’s Crisis Response Team should gather in a conference room, training room or a large office to participate in the exercise using a single computer or a combination computer / LCD projector. A single member of the school’s Crisis Response Team should be assigned the responsibility for accessing and logging into the ONX System. This individual will also be responsible for controlling the computer and typing in the responses to the various injects (questions) that will be presented throughout the exercise. Exercise Participation

Copyright - Disaster Resistant Communities Group – Once the exercise begins each school’s Crisis Response Team will work through the various scenarios and injects at its own pace. The exercise is designed to take 1.5 hours more or less. As your school’s Crisis Response Team works through the exercise remember to be as thorough as possible in responding to the exercise injects. A conference call line will remain open throughout the exercise in case your school’s Crisis Response Team has any questions. Exercise Participation

Copyright - Disaster Resistant Communities Group – At the conclusion of the exercise all members of the school’s Crisis Response Team will need to access then login using their USER NAME and PASSWORD to complete their individual Exercise Hotwash.
