CONTENT: *what is air pollution? *How serious air pollution are in Hong Kong ? *Causes of air pollution *Effect of air pollution *Methods to solve air pollution

“The air pollution” is defined “The atmosphere has some physical existence, its quantity and pauses in the atmospheric time, can harm human's health and the environment.”

-Diesel vehicles -Power Plants -Industries -Air pollutants come from Guangdong province -Carbon dioxide -Carbon monoxide -Lead particles -Particulates -Sulphur dioxide -Nitrogen dioxide release

1.Environment: Acid rain : -mainly caused by nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide(acidic gases) -The acidic gas dissolve in the water and participate down is called acid rain. -Harm to the terrestrial animal damage to their skin, and respiratory system. -The soil becoming acidic and decrease the crop yield. -Precipitate into the water and damage to organisms. -The loss of crop yield and corrosive to the metal and stone -Cause the extra money to repair and maintenance. It can cause the economic depletion.

2.Economy: Tourism -nearly 40% tourists said that the air pollution is very serious -10% tourists feel ill due to the foul air to. -4% tourists expressed they will not come to Hong Kong again. Investment -make the foreign investor have less interest to invest in Hong Kong. Global warming: -caused by too much carbon dioxide -Increasing the temperature -Melt the ice and the sea level will raise -Immerse costal cities including Hong Kong -Affect the ecosystem

Health: -Carbon monoxide : causes dizziness, headaches, fainting -Particulates : causes respiratory diseases -Lead particles : accumulate in our bodies and cause hyperactivity in children and also cause damage to our nervous system, etc -cause death!! Others: -not suitable for live, less immigrants -scary away the talents

Set Up Law Cooperation between Guandong and H.K. COOPERATION WITH NEIGHBOURS Education

In order to reduce emissions from local vehicles, the Government announced a package of initiatives in the 1999 Policy Address, including the following: A) Increasing the penalty for smoky vehicles from $450 to $1,000 and stepped up law enforcement. B) Introducing ultra low sulphur diesel Set up law

Cooperation between Guandong and H.K. Hong Kong and the Guangdong Provincial Government reached an agreement in April 2002 as the follow: (1)The emission of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, lead particles will be reduced by 40%. (2)The foundation of 3 nuclear plants will be expected to complete in 2006 ended.

cause a lot of pollutants which will directly harm to Hong Kong residents aggravate the air pollution of Hong Kong.

Education A) Educate citizens to reduce air pollution by choosing public instead of personalized transport and doing such things as turning off electric lights and appliances when not in use. (B) Promotion and development of renewable energy, such as solar power, hydro electric power, etc. (C) Promote citizenship education in primary school and secondary school.
