Parent night 2015

Biography My name is Bryan Davis and this is my 12th year of teaching. This is my 4th year at Taylor Jr. High. I have taught 9th, 8th and 7th grade and I have taught 7th grade for the last five years.

How I did it before This year will be some changes to what I have been doing in the past. I used to teacher skills and we isolated the skill and work on it.

How I will teach this year This year, we will be working on multiple skills at the same time by using short stories and novels. We will be reading more books this year. Fiction and Nonfiction. We will read a story and then watch a movie. To compare and contrast them. We will read and listen about a certain subject and answer questions.

How I will teach this year We are going to emphasize grammar and by spending a ½ of period working on grammar rules every week. We will be typing essay papers. At least two paper per 9 weeks. There will be 16 week of vocabulary quizzes with four reviews. We are going to write in a journal and have 36 entries.

Semester Projects First semester, 18 grammar lessons and 18 full pages of journals. Second semester, 36 grammar lessons and 36 full pages of journals. The composition book will be turned in for a grade at the end of the school year.

Supplies 1.Mechanical pencils.5 or.7 lead with extra lead. 2.Black or blue pens. 3.Multicolor highlighters. No sharpie markers. 4.College rule paper. No wide paper or spiral notebooks. 5.2 inch binder 6.Composition book

Website You will be able to access all assignments and a calendar. Any missed assignments or pdf can be downloaded and printed. Students are responsible for make up on any assignments missed. There are some assignments that will be due when your child gets back. After that day, I will not accept them.

Vocabulary On Mondays the students will get a unit of 12 vocabulary words. They will write the word, definition, and draw a picture. The picture is anything that will help them remember the word. Students have to use each word in a sentence and turn them in before the quiz On Fridays, they will take a quiz on each word.
