Correct these fragments: When I was young I had a favorite form of transportation. A bus which traveled to the beach. When I was young my favorite form of transportation was a bus which traveled to the beach. There were some great rides at the amusement park. Was open from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. There were some great rides at the amusement park which was open from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M.

Read each sentence aloud. Put S before each complete sentence and F before each sentence fragment. 1.______ Dancers dance. 2.______ Reliable as mother, wife, and secretary. 3.______ Do you remember? 4.______ The campers who kept the cleanest cabin. 5.______ Even if we fly, we will be late. 6.______ Having worked outdoors all his life. 7.______ Wanting to please her parents, she had tea ready on their arrival. 8.______ Sad to hear of the many occurrences of vandalism. 9.______ Painting in a studio with bad lighting. 10._____ As soon as the police arrived, the fighting stopped.

Comma Splices When a comma alone separates two independent clauses. Comma splices MUST be corrected. The computer is an invaluable tool, it links together millions of people.

Correct these comma splices: Paul went swimming during the storm, he nearly drowned. Mary killed her husband with a leg of lamb, no one will ever know because the evidence was eaten.

Run-on Sentence Consists of two or more independent clauses with no punctuation or connector between them. Run-on sentences MUST be corrected. We headed off to the game during the rain the rain stopped before we got there.

Ways to correct run-on sentences: Create two sentences Add a comma and a conjunction (and, but, or) Use a semicolon (the two sentences must be closely related) Use a connecting word (because, then, when, if)

Correct these sentences: Night was falling the sun was setting. A diamond won’t dissolve in acid intense heat can destroy it.

Correct these sentences 1.Learning is not child’s play we cannot learn without pain. 2.Mama had not been consulted therefore, she made no comment. 3.Jim had done research, taken notes, and made an outline but he didn’t feel ready to begin writing.
