Percussion Instruments Percussion Instruments are designed to make unique noises when hit with a stick or hand. There are two main types of Percussion Instruments: membranophones and idiophones. Membranophones instruments are the ones that have membranes and are hit with your hand. They cover a hollow shell. Idiophones are rarely hollow. They are made to vibrate when hit and they don’t have membranes.

Brass Instruments The longer the tube, the lower the pitch. To play a brass instruments lips have to be pursed to create a buzzing noise. Buzzing lips against mouthpiece causes the tube and air inside it to vibrate creating a clear tone. This is a French Horn. It is the hardest instrument to master from the Brass family.

Woodwind Instruments These instruments are not all made up of wood but needs wind to make noise. To make music, air is blown into the mouthpiece and a reed. This type of instruments would not be able to play without this. The shorter the tube is, the lower the pitch. The longer the tube is, the higher the pitch. String Instruments String instruments is any instruments with strings such as guitar, violin, cello, viola and piano. Sound comes from the vibration of the strings. A resonator makes the sound louder. There are lots of way to play stringed instruments: plucked, bowed. Plucked is when the string is flicked with thumb, finger or a small piece of plastic. Bowed is when the string is rubbed over and played using a bow.
