Overview Adjunct Career Counselor (5 hours/week) One-on-one counseling, vocational assessments, Major/Career workshops Outreach through Summer Bridge cohorts, developmental English & Math, PD 40 classes, Center for Academic Success Taking current counseling support to the next level Connection to academic counseling
Components Rationale Having a clarified goal is positively correlated to persistence and achievement Clarifying the goal early in the college career positively correlated to persistence and achievement The majority of Pierce college students are “undecided” Many Pierce basic skills students get stuck in the pipeline Assisting students with clarifying their educational goal will lead to greater student commitment

Measurement Quantitative & Qualitative data Program will be evaluated end of Fall semester for additional funding in Spring semester Long-term goal to track students longitudinally Scalability Institutionalization Has the support of Administration Connectivity CATE CAS Professional Development Opening Day, Spring Convocation, Newsletter, Liaison to General Counseling

Student Success Goals & Pierce Strategic Plan Clearly aligned with Student Success Objectives & Pierce Strategic Plan 1.5 Focus on recruiting students, retaining and preparing them through comprehensive programs and services that address their academic, personal, cultural, and financial needs. 2.2 Facilitate student readiness for successful learning by developing and promoting programs for new students to clarify goals and plan for the college experience. (also a Student Success Objective) 2.7 Identify effective practices for enhancing students’ attainment of degrees and certificates, and improve the transfer function. Expand learning opportunities that promote student engagement and that develop personal and civic responsibility
