Green Pitcher Plants at Little River Canyon National Preserve

Congressional Statement of Purpose to protect and preserve the natural, scenic, recreational, and cultural resources of Little River Canyon area in DeKalb and Cherokee Counties, Alabama, and to provide for the protection and public enjoyment of those resources there is established Little River Canyon National Preserve.

Little River Canyon has over 100 rare species. Three are endangered, two are threatened, not including the Bald Eagle, and about 18 are endemic, living only in this area.

Endangered Species: Green Pitcher Plant Sarracenia oreophila It lives in only three states.

They are carnivorous plants, living in the poor soil of sandy bogs.

What adaptations does the Pitcher plant have that is common? …Uncommon? How do these plants populate an area? How are they adapted to life in their habitat?

Who depends upon these plants? They are a community themselves What do you see?
