My World of Work The My World of Work website has a wealth of information about routes to your future The Careers A-Z guide has information on a range of different careers and the routes to them

Routes to Employment University College Apprenticeships Gap year/ Volunteering Employment Work experience

University Students can apply for up to five courses All applications go through UCAS (University Central Admission Service) Use the UCAS website to research courses, institutions etc.

College Borders College – applications close on March 15 th Edinburgh College – applications are open now – the sooner you apply the better

Apprenticeships Plenty of apprenticeship opportunities available in Scotland at the moment Training and qualifications Look up My World of Work Look up Apprenticeshipsinscotland.com

Gap Year/Volunteering Lots of opportunities available for the whole year or part of a year A number of our S6 students go away with the Project Trust

Employment Many jobs are gained through contacts, family businesses etc. Some people choose to do this to save money before going on to study or to help them make up their minds about what they want to do Many will already have part time jobs Many companies offer opportunities to train through the company and to work your way up to management

Work Experience Some students choose to gain further work experience before going on to study. This can put them in a better position for applying and succeeding in their courses

Events coming up… Applications to the Sutton Trust Summer School - further information is available from your Guidance Teacher Oxford Cambridge Student Conference – this will be held at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh on Thursday 19 th March. See Miss Fleming for further information.
