Process: Windows XP Microsoft Windows XP Tutorial Aleeza Abbasi Ben Davis Tolulope Adeosun David Park Kris Fischer

Audience The tutorial is written for college level individuals. It does not give in-depth insight for those who have an advanced understanding of Windows XP, but is also not written using bullet points for a grade school individual to follow. The material is clearly written in step-by-step form. It is easy for a person with an intermediate level knowledge of windows to follow. A beginner without much experience and knowledge of the technology would probably have trouble following the steps. A person with an advanced knowledge of the material would most likely not need a tutorial to use Windows XP, and if they did, they would be better served with shortcuts rather than step-by-step instructions.

Format The format of the Windows XP tutorial is straightforward and organized. Each heading and subheading is distinct from the text. The tutorial is not double-spaced. The steps and information are written in paragraph, bulleted, and numbered form. Definitions and instructions are both given. Most instructions are in numbered format while most definitions are in short, concise paragraphs. Screen shots are embedded in the text.

Tone The tone of the article is formal and informative. The tutorial also provides some visual screen shots of the instructions presented within the text, allowing for a relaxed tone. Does the tutorial hold my interest? It depends on the reader. If I were reading it because I was interested in the material or if I needed to know the material, then yes. Since I was neither, I would have to say no; I am not interested in Microsoft XP.

Directions: Easy or Difficult to Follow? The directions are easy to follow if you are at least familiar with computers, if you own a computer, or if you have used one in the past. However, some of the tutorial is very dense and may cause a person to get lost within the instructions. The screen shots and bullet point information within the tutorial are less intimidating to the reader. All the important steps were present. The tutorial even includes tips and the “Do’s and Don’ts” of Microsoft XP.

Lesson Details - Saving on Windows XP The tutorial on saving documents was easy to follow. The lesson explains that the saving procedure is generally the same for different applications A snapshot the dialog box gives the user a view of what the dialog box should look like. The use of numbered steps guides the user. Also, at the end of the lesson, there were some tips for saving documents for ease of access and to avoid loss of data. Overall, the lessons were very effective.

This tutorial has taught us to: Have clear titles Include a chart for shortcuts that serves to aid in making PowerPoint presentations (for our process manual) Show screen shot images that aid in explanation Bold titles What we learned

What we learned (…continued…) This tutorial has taught us not to: make the title the same font as explanations use “hard to see colors” such as a green background or light green text Make font or pictures too small
