3 Starting PowerPoint Windows XP PCs Start All Programs Microsoft Office Microsoft PowerPoint

4 The First Slide When PowerPoint starts, you will see a window like this one.

6 Typing Text 1) Click on Click to add title, then start typing 2) Click on Click to add subtitle, then start typing Subject You Teach Your Name

7 This page contains too many words for a presentation slide. It is not written in point form, making it difficult both for your audience to read and for you to present each point. It looks very complicated. In short, your audience will spend too much time trying to read this paragraph instead of listening to you. Adding Too Much Text

8 Text Tips Font: Tahoma Size: 30 Write in point form, not complete sentences Include 3-5 points per slide Avoid wordiness: use key words and phrases only Animate text

10 Adding Animation 1) Select the Animations Tab on the ribbon. 2) Click on the text or picture you want to animate. 3) Click on Custom Animation on the ribbon. (Look to right of slide for pop-up box) 4) Add Effect by clicking on the drop-down arrow. 5) You can change the order of your animation by clicking and dragging the items in your Custom Animation list. Add animation to your Title Slide

11 Saving Your PowerPoint 1) Click on the Office Button and select Save As and give your project a name (Your Name). You can also select where you want your work saved (C: or USB drive) 2) Now that you have selected where to save your work click on the Disk Icon time and again to update your saved work.

12 Adding a New Slide 1) Select the Home Tab on the ribbon then click the New Slide Icon. 2) Clicking on the New Slide drop-down arrow allows you to select different slide layouts. Please add 2 or more slides

13 Go to Google and find a picture (of anything) and save it to the My Pictures folder

14 Inserting Pictures 2 Different Ways 1) Select the Insert Tab on the ribbon then click on the Picture Icon. You will then select your saved picture from the My Pictures folder. 2) Click on the Picture Icon in the middle of the blank text box.

15 Changing Picture Size & Location Size 1) Click on the picture and then click on a corner circle and drag to adjust the size. Location 2) Hover over the picture until the four-sided arrow appears then click and drag picture to new location.

16 Changing Slide Design 1) Select the Design Tab on the ribbon then and choose a background. 2) Click on the drop-down arrow and scroll down to see more choices.

19 Adding Sound 1) Select the Insert Tab on the ribbon. 2) Click on the Speaker Icon to add a sound from your files. 3) Click on the drop-down arrow to select a sound from the Clip Organizer or to record your own sound. (you will need a mic) Tip- Save your music file to your USB drive

20 Adding Video & Hyperlinks United Streaming

21 1) Go to http://streaming.discoveryeducation.com/ 2) Sign in and click on a video (any video) 3) Change download type to Windows Media, click Film Strip Icon to start download. Save to My Documents

22 Adding Video & Hyperlinks 1) Select the Insert Tab on the ribbon. 2) Click on the Movie Icon. You will be prompted to find the video in your files (tip- I created a Video Folder in My Documents) 3) Formats: avi, wmv 4) United Streaming videos download as wmv files United Streaming 5) Select the text/picture you want to hyperlink and click Hyperlink on the ribbon (you’ll need the URL to paste in the address bar).
