Repousse is a French word meaning to push back A metalworking technique in which a thin sheet of malleable metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief Wikipedia

Process: Create a non-objective relief design (relief is a type of sculpture in which form projects from a background) Focus on line, shape, texture & pattern Use the repousse method to burnish metal foil on both sides Matte the artwork & continue the 3D design onto the 2D surface using colored pencil, pastel or markers Adapted from a lesson that appeared in Arts & Activities magazine
