40. REQUIREMENTS: All surfaces of your sculpture will be changed (carved, sanded, textured or drilled) so that they “flow” into each other. Finished sculpture will be painted and mounted onto a dowel and base to show it off most effectively.

41. Getting started… 1.Begin by sculpting clay into an abstract or non- objective form that contains convex and concave surfaces, negative spaces, and texture. (maquette) 2.Make your plaster and pour it into the balloon mold. Hold it in your hands so that it takes the basic shape of your clay form. Be very still until the plaster begins to harden (5 min). Let it set up over night. 3. Begin to carve and drill into your blob, using natural wrinkles and holes from the plastic bag as a guide. You will use your clay form to guide you in your carving. Place a sheet of linoleum under your project, and clean it and your tools at the end of the hour.
