Presentation transcript:

Introduction A computer is a group of interdependent items that interact regularly to perform a task. A computer system refers to the hardware and software components that run a computer or computers.

Operating systems An operating system (commonly abbreviated OS and O/S) is an interface between hardware and applications. The operating system acts as a host for applications that are run on the machine.

System Types The system can be classified as the following two types Desktop Systems Laptop Systems

Desktop Systems A computer designed to fit comfortably on top of a desk, typically with the monitor sitting on top of the computer. Desktop models designed to be very small are sometimes referred to as slim line models.

Specifications Processor-Intel Core Duo 3.0 GHZ processor Memory-2 GB RAM Fixed Disk-160 GB SATA hard drive Optical Drive-DVD+/-RW optical drive Network Adapter-Integrated ethernet adapter

Operating System-Microsoft Windows XP Monitor-19” flat-panel LCD Keyboard-USB keyboard Mouse-USB optical mouse Sound System-Integrated Sound

Advantages Cost Speed Cheaper and easier to repair Less easy to damage Difficult to steal than a laptop computer

Disadvantages It is very complicated with many cords to have to deal with. A desktop is not very portable. It can be used by only one person at a time.

Laptop Systems A laptop computer is a personal computer designed for mobile use that is small enough to sit on one's lap. A laptop integrates all of the typical components of a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard a pointing device and a battery into a single portable unit.

Specification CPU-Intel Mobile Pentium 4-M 1.7 GHz processor Memory-256 MB RAM HDD-40 GB removable FDD-External USB Supply I/O Port-Serial, USB, DC input, DVI – I

AC adapter-Universal AC adapter Audio-AC 97 audio support Built-in speaker Keyboard-Full GWERTY, full sealed keyboard Display-12.1” X GA LCD Touch panel or 13.3” LCD touch panel

Advantages A laptop can be used in many places – not only at home and at the office. Up-to-date information Connectivity Laptops are smaller than standard PCs

Disadvantages Laptops are more expensive than desktop PCs at the same or even lower performance level. Being valuable, common and portable, laptops are to be theft easily.

Desktop vs. Laptop Desktop Laptop A desktop system usually consists of multiple separate components like the CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse. A laptop is a small, self-contained computer. Desktops and their associated equipment are heavy. Laptops are generally light and easy to carry around. A desktop means you've got a lot of separate pieces making up your system. Small size means you can easily throw it into a bag or carrying case and go.

The End ….. Thank you …
