Are you ready for the ELA? 6 th Grade ELA Assessment: Regular school dayCome in at regular time – block scheduling

What do I have to do on Day One? Regular School Day! Reading Comprehension (90 minutes) Book 1  You will read approximately 6-7 passages – (both literary and informational) and answer 42 multiple choice questions Literary passages may include short stories, folk tales, poetry or other forms of literary writing Informational passages may include articles, short passages from biographies or autobiographies, essays, or other forms of informational writing.

What do I have to do on Day Two? Reading Comprehension and Writing (90 minutes) Book 2 You will read approximately 3 passages – (both literary and informational) Answer 21 multiple choice questions Book 3 You will read approximately 2 passages – (both literary and informational) Answer 3 short response questions Answer 1 extended response question (essay)

What do I have to do on Day Three? Reading Comprehension and Writing (90 minutes) Book 4  You will read approximately 3 passages – (both literary and informational)  Answer 5 short response questions  Answer 1 extended response question (essay)

All Days… You may only use pencil  Answers must be written on the scantron in pencil  Short response answers must be written in pencil  Extended response answers must be written in pencil  You need sharpened pencils (3-5) with good erasers and a highlighter

Things to remember… You cannot get extra paper; all of your answers must go in the test booklet! If you don’t know how to spell a word, use the test to help you (i.e., look back at the question or the passage). Teachers may not explain anything other than the directions to the test. You must use your context clue and inference strategies, along with your best judgment if you are unsure of something. Proofread your work (i.e., read it over to yourself to see if it sounds good, make sure you answer all parts of the question). On a scantron, make sure you erase clearly if you change an answer!

Things to remember…

Multiple Choice Question Strategies: Read the directions. Read the questions FIRST. Underline or highlight, check for understanding as you read. Look back at the questions – make sure you understand what is being asked. Read all of the answer choices. Select the BEST answer! Do not leave any blanks If time allows, check your answers

Short Response Strategies: Read the question carefully. Decide what is being asked. Look back in the passage(s) for information to answer the questions. Restate the question in your response. Make sure that you have at least two or three details to support your response. Be sure to answer ALL parts of the question. Remember the RAECC writing formula and write it in the margin of your test paper!

Extended Response Strategies: Read the question carefully. Decide what is being asked. Look back in the passage(s) for information to clearly answer the question. Restate the question in your response. Make sure that you have at least two or three details from the passages to support your response. Be sure to answer ALL parts of the question. (Go back and check off the “bullets” to be sure you answered all of them in your essay). Remember the RAECC writing formula and write it in the margin of your test paper. (Spelling, grammar, sophisticated vocabulary, and sentence structure are important!)

Get Ready to Do Your Best Get a good night’s sleep! Eat a good breakfast!

Get Ready to Do Your Best Be confident! You are well prepared!

Get Ready to Do Your Best Don’t forget pencils and highlighters!

Try your best!

Good Luck !!
