3 Get Ready ! Get all the materials you need together

4 Plan out your study time! Start early! Use your agenda to plan out your study time Don’t leave it to the last minute…cramming does not work

5 Create the perfect study place! should be quiet, comfortable and free from distractions

6 Actively study! Read, cover, and recite AND/OR Rewrite important facts/concepts in Q&A form on index cards (question on one side, answer on the back) AND/OR Photocopy pages from text to read, highlight, circle, underline key information AND/OR

7 Record question, pause, then record answer …listen on iPod or computer (pause will give you time to answer before answer is given) Use a checklist to keep track of main concepts and what you need to concentrate on Use colour to help you remember different things; i,.e. units, vocabulary, formulas

8 Study smart…not hard! Don’t study everything…study what you do not know Focus on the most important topics, key themes/concepts Once you've nailed down the important stuff, you can move onto the finer details

9 Take breaks! For every hour that you study, take about 15 minutes to do something mindless Will help to keep stress level down & give your brain a chance to process the info

13 1. Come prepared If you have an IEP…USE the accommodations that you are entitled to Arrive early Full uniform Pens, pencils, eraser, white-out Calculator Ruler

14 2. Read the whole exam Make sure you understand the instructions If you are given choices, plan which ones you will answer Figure out where the most marks are and budget your time accordingly While you are answering one question, information about another may suddenly occur to you Jot it down somewhere because when you come to that question later, you may have forgotten

15 3. Read each question carefully Underline key words What are you being asked to do? Is there more than 1 part to the question?

16 4. Don’t leave blanks If you are short on time, use point form Pay attention to how much a question is worth…i.e. don’t put down 1 point for a 5 mark question If you write nothing, you can't receive any marks

17 5. Don’t spend too much time on multiple choice ?s Cover the answers and work out your own before looking at the choices Read all the answers before making your choice Place an x beside the ones you know are incorrect If you can't answer the question come back to it later – can take a guess

18 6. Use all of your time Take the time to go over the exam and check your answers Do not change anything unless you are 100% sure it is wrong Use reverse calculations to check math questions
