History 1927: September 12- first 86 students attended Buncombe County Junior College 1934: Due to Depression, financial support for the college was withdrawn. City School System provides financial support 1936: chartered as Asheville-Biltmore College; accreditied by US Department of education 1940: Due to population pressures, college is forced to move to Asheville Normal and Teacher’s School 1942: College moves to former County Home for Children 1957: Becomes first two-year college in NC to receive state funds
