Student has completed or will complete A-G Requirements with the following minimums: 2.Algebra 2 / Algebra 2-Trig 3.Chemistry 4.2 nd year of a Foreign Language 5.GPA Student is meeting GPA Requirement (please note these are only minimums, most schools have a significantly higher GPA requirement): CSU- Minimum GPA is 2.0 UC- Minimum GPA is 3.0 5.Student has taken, or will take, the SAT or ACT exam.

11 A History/Social Science – 2 years required Two years of history/social science, including one year of world history, cultures and geography; and one year of U.S. history or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of American government. B English – 4 years required Four years of college-preparatory English that include frequent and regular writing, and reading of classic and modern literature. No more than one year of ESL-type courses can be used to meet this requirement. C Mathematics – 3 years required, 4 years recommended Three years of college-preparatory mathematics Including Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II. RECAP: CSU/UC A-G Requirements

12 D Laboratory Science – 2 years required, 3 years recommended Two years of laboratory science providing fundamental knowledge in at least two of these three foundational subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Must be one year of life and one year of physical science. E Language Other than English – 2 years required, 3 years recommended Two years of the same language other than English. These required 2 years have to be consecutive years. (ASL is accepted at most schools) F Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) – 1 year required A single yearlong approved arts course from a single VPA discipline: drama, music or visual art. 13 G College-Preparatory Electives – 1 year required One year (two semesters) of a college preparatory elective in addition to those required in "a-f" above, chosen from the following areas: visual and performing arts (non-introductory level courses), history, social science, English, advanced mathematics, laboratory science and language other than English (a third year in the language used for the "e" requirement or two years of another language). PLEASE NOTE: WHENEVER THE UC SYSTEM INDICATES “RECOMMENDED,” IT IS ESSENTIALLY A REQUIREMENT WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE POOL OF APPLICANTS. UC/CSU A-G Requirements

14  It depends on the student’s academic goals. ◦ UC/CSU Bound: the student should take as many A-G courses as possible. ◦ Community College or HS Diploma: Meet FUSD graduation requirements.  AP vs. college prep: GPA is important, so if a student cannot achieve an A or B in AP, enroll in college prep.  Meet with counselors or administration for specific recommendations based on academic goals.

16  Academic grade point average in all completed "a-g" courses, including additional points for completed UC-certified honors courses.  Scores on the following tests: ACT Plus Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test.  Number of, content of and performance in academic courses beyond the minimum "a-g" requirements.  Number of and performance in UC-approved honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Higher Level and transferable college courses.  Identification by UC as being ranked in the top 9 percent of your high school class at the end of your junior year (Eligible in the Local Context, or ELC).Eligible in the Local Context  Quality of your senior-year program as measured by the type and number of academic courses in progress or planned.  Quality of your academic performance relative to the educational opportunities available in your high school.  Outstanding performance in one or more specific subject areas.  Outstanding work in one or more special projects in any academic field of study.  Recent, marked improvement in academic performance as demonstrated by academic GPA and the quality of coursework completed or in progress.  Special talents, achievements and awards in a particular field, such as visual and performing arts, communication or athletic endeavors; special skills, such as demonstrated written and oral proficiency in other languages; special interests, such as intensive study and exploration of other cultures; experiences that demonstrate unusual promise for leadership, such as significant community service or significant participation in student government; or other significant experiences or achievements that demonstrate the student's promise for contributing to the intellectual vitality of a campus.
