Benchmarking the internationalisation of research networks and key RTD institutions in LAC Task 1.4 Dirk Johann, ZSI Annual Consortium Meeting , Lissabon

Main questions What are the main barriers, enablers and current trends driving/hindering the scientific collaboration between Latin American and European researchers? What are the main drivers for LAC researchers to collaborate with European researchers in different thematic fields? Who establishes the agenda and the main research topics to be studied in EU-LAC collaborative networks? What role does the Framework Programme play in the internationalisation of the research agenda of key RTD institutions in LAC?

Methodology Development of appropriate benchmarking approach to analyse the role of EU-LAC collaboration links in fields of specialisation and to compare its impact on the internationalisation of key RTD institutions in EU and LAC Complementary analysis (on individual researcher and institutional level) builds on the results of tasks 1.1 and 1.3 Online survey (Snowball sampling) relies on referrals from initial study subjects to generate additional subjects

Methodology Who is surveyed? Latin American scientists that have published one or several scientific articles in co-authorship with foreigners including at least one European scientist How were the scientists for the online survey identified? From SCI, SSCI, AHCI databases (based on the co-publications indexed since 2003) How will the key collaborative institutions (EU- LAC) be identified? Institutional survey on patterns of EU-LAC research networking in internationally funded (FP and other) projects
