TEXTURE

 Texture refers to surface  Everything that has a surface has texture  There are 2 kinds of texture: Physical and Visual

TEXTURE  Physical Texture (tactile)  Tactile means touch  Physical texture is the actual feel of a surface. It is 3D texture.

TEXTURE  Visual Texture  Visual texture refers to the illusion of the surface’s texture. No matter how rough objects in a photo or painting look, the surface is still smooth and flat. Cataract 3, Bridget Riley, Visual texture through repetition of line.Bridget Riley

TEXTURE  Techniques for creating physical texture  Brushstrokes Texture can be smooth or rough, depending upon the brushstrokes. For smooth and even textures, you can use swift brushstrokes with soft bristles. For a rough texture, brush stokes are hard, broad and impulsive. Dry brush and wet brush techniques are also used for different textures. Brushing with heavy colours creates a heavy texture, while mild textures can be done by gliding the brush smoothly.  Shading is one of the most important aspect of building texture in an art work.  Painting Surface Interesting textures can be created by painting on glass, wood, fabrics, walls, carpets, rough canvas, recycled paper, smooth papers…….  Painting Tools Textures can also be created using different types of painting tools. Acrylic paints, oil paints, fabrics and water colours are different forms used to bring textures in paintings.
