About Asthma  Asthma is a disorder that causes the airways of the lungs to swell and narrow.  It is thought to be caused by a history of genetic and environmental factors.

Signs, and Symptoms  Common symptoms of asthma include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness.  Usually Asthma develops when you are a child, so if your kid starts to show these symptoms then you should consult your doctor.

Signs, and Symptoms Continued  Asthma is thought to be caused by genetic and environmental factors.  Recent studies have shown that exposure to air pollutants while your still a child can cause asthma.  Weather and Allergens are also thought to be causes of Asthma.

Diet and Exercise  Since Asthma and allergies go hand in hand, what you eat can greatly affect whether you have Asthma attacks or not.  While on the other hand, exercise can be a problem to people with exercise- induced Asthma. Unless you have an inhaler.

Treatment  There are two types of medicine:  Short term- something like an inhaler, which gives you quick relief during an Asthma attack.  Long term- medicine that helps prevent Asthma attacks and relieve some of the symptoms.

Impact on Family  Asthma is thought to be a genetic and environmental disorder.  It can run in family’s, so it is considered to be an inherited trait.  Asthma can also not run in family’s and can be caused by exposure to air pollutants and allergens.

Living with your Asthma  Activities you can do to help with asthma: Swimming and running.  Swimming is a great sport for people who have asthma, because it works on breath control.  Ways to reduce the amount of Asthma attacks you have: Using an inhaler frequently, and long term medication. Also staying away from pollutants can help.

Wow Facts About Asthma  Brittle Asthma- is a term used to describe two types of Asthma, distinguishable by recurrent, severe attacks.  Almost 13 million people report having an Asthma attack in the past year.  As of 2010, there were 300 million people with Asthma worldwide. Wow!
