Nick Carraway Nick is a 29 year old male who is from a wealthy family in the Midwest. Nick was educated in New Haven and he served in World War 1. During the summer Nick meets Gatsby he is a bonds broker who lives in the West Egg. A few of Nicks hobbies are hanging out with Gatsby and going to his parties. Nick narrates the story and is considered an unreliable narrator because of his opinions even though he claims that he does not judge. In the novel Nick is in a relationship with Jordan Baker, him and Gatsby and neighbors/ friends, and Daisy is his cousin.

Jay Gatsby Jay Gatsby is in his mid-thirties, and he comes from a poor family. For a short amount of time Gatsby attended Oxford, he also earned many metals from fighting in World War 1. Gatsby made most of his money from bootlegging but his current occupation is unknown. Jay Gatsby lives in the West Egg next door to Nick Carraway. Nick and Gatsby apparently know each other from the war. Gatsby’s hobby in the story is throwing parties but he also is very set on pursuing Daisy. Daisy and Gatsby met when they were young and before he left for war, they have always been in love with each other. Gatsby never reaches the green light across the bay.

Daisy Buchanan Daisy Buchanan is in her early twenties. Daisy comes from a wealthy family and she lives in East Egg. Daisy’s education is unknown and she is a stay at home mom. Daisy’s hobbies include going into town and spending time with Gatsby. Throughout the novel, Daisy is in search for love but she is afraid of intimacy. Tom and Daisy are married and they have one daughter together, but they have a loveless marriage. Daisy fell in love with Gatsby when she was 17 and she has been in love with him since. Daisy and Gatsby have an affair and they planned to run away together but their plans fell through. In the end of the story Daisy kills Myrtle with Gatsby’s car.

Tom Buchanan Tom Buchanan is in his mid-thirties. Tom comes from a wealthy family and he lives with Daisy and their daughter in East Egg. Tom attended New Haven with Nick. Tom’s occupation is unknown. A few of Tom’s hobbies include his horses and sports. Tom and Daisy are both unhappy in their marriage because they fear intimacy. Tom likes to brag about his life style, he is selfish, and he likes to have power. Since Tom is unhappy in his marriage he has an affair with Myrtle, a poor married woman from the Valley of Ashes. In his relationship with Myrtle, Tom has the power that desires.

Jordan Baker Jordan Baker is in her early twenties and she lives in New York. Jordan’s education is unknown. Jordan is a professional golfer who comes from a wealthy family. Her hobbies are golfing and going to Gatsby’s parties. Jordan is close friends with Daisy and she has known her since they were in their teenage years. Daisy is romantically involved with Nick throughout the novel until the end of the story when she gets engaged to a different man.

Myrtle Wilson Myrtle Wilson is in her thirties and she lives in the Valley of Ashes. Myrtle comes from a poor family. Her education and occupation are unknown. Myrtle’s hobbies are not for sure but it seems as if she enjoys pretending to be rich and spending time with her sister. Myrtle is married to George but she does not love her husband, and she is involved in an affair with Tom Buchanan. Myrtle is killed by getting hit by a car that Daisy is driving.

George Wilson George Wilson is in his thirties and he is from a poor family. George’s education and military service are unknown. George lives in the Valley of Ashes with his wife Myrtle. He is an owner of a car shop and his hobbies include fixing cars and selling cars. George was planning on running away with Myrtle because he believed that she was having an affair. Myrtle is killed and George wants to avenge her death so he determined to figure out with killed her. Gatsby covers for Daisy so nothing happens to her for killing Myrtle, but for that George kills Gatsby in his pool.

Meyer Wolfsheim Meyer Wolfsheim lives in New York and he is in his fifties. His education, parent’s background, and hobbies are unknown. Meyer is involved with illegal businesses. He helped Gatsby get his money from bootlegging and he is rumored to be the man who fixed the World Series. Gatsby and Meyer are old friends but at the end of the story Meyer does not got to Gatsby’s funeral.
