@sparqs_scotland Outline QAA Mastersness project. Scoping exercise on current PGT provision. Consultation over what we can do to help PGT representation. Outcomes.

@sparqs_scotland QAA Mastersness For those with interest in and responsibility for masters degrees. Explores the specific characteristics of a masters degree. Designed a toolkit to help institutions consider mastersness.

@sparqs_scotland Context of Scoping Exercise Expansion in taught postgraduate courses and student numbers. Increasing number of course representatives. How they fit in with current provision. Models of PGT representation.

@sparqs_scotland Models of PGT Training Adapting the undergraduate training session and handbook. Developing a session designed specifically for postgraduates. Having a relaxed and informal conversational approach.

@sparqs_scotland Tailored Training Built around the aspects of postgraduate study that mark it as different. Delivered to PGT students by specific trainers. One of three types of session (PGR, UG and PGT).

@sparqs_scotland Adapted Training Based on the sessions developed by sparqs. Keeps a consistency in the training across the institution. Delivered by Institutional Associate Trainers.

@sparqs_scotland Informal Training Discussion based. In lunch/evening so not to conflict with classes or commitments. Delivered by appropriate SU officers and staff.

@sparqs_scotland Questions Raised Where do postgraduate taught course reps fit in to the university and SU structures? Do they need to have course rep training separate from PGR students? How do we get institutions to ensure all PGT students are represented? Should there be a uniform model?

@sparqs_scotland Consultation Aims and Objectives Think in depth about what makes a PGT degree. Explore PGT student experience. Develop solutions to representation issues. Think of resources that can support SUs and institutions.

@sparqs_scotland Mastersness Workshop

@sparqs_scotland Student Learning Experience (UG)

@sparqs_scotland PGT Student Learning Experience What do you think are the key elements of the PGT student learning experience? If you had to develop a resource to help PGT students reflect on their programme would would it include?

@sparqs_scotland Outcomes Resources more important to students’ associations. No need to add additional PGT specific training. A PGT student learning experience?

@sparqs_scotland Student Learning Experience (PGT) Student Learning Experience Curriculum Learning resources Learning, teaching and research process Assessment and feedback Student transitions Academic community and professionalism Guidance and support QA/QE

@sparqs_scotland Discussion Do you think the PGT Student Learning Experience could be a useful tool? Is there any other aspects that should be considered? Is there anything here that shouldn’t be considered?

@sparqs_scotland Key issues from consultation Support for transition needed: during induction and when communicating expectations and outcomes of their PGT study; for developing employability skills; and in relation to quality and governance issues around PGT education.
