NSRP Mission Every third grader below proficiency in reading will be paired with a mentor who is currently employed by CMS. The reading partner will meet with the third grader once a week for a total of 30 one-on-one sessions to work on comprehension skills. With social, emotional, and academic support, these students will reach proficiency by the end of the year and be prepared to enter 4th grade as college and career ready.

Goals & Expectations

Registering as a Volunteer Why? https://www.cmsvolunteers.com/volunteer.php?newflag=1

Student Confidentiality Why is this necessary? All mentors must fill this out before working with students. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1eo_kUV49re_L5AxtTn9 7JsHcvfjIQqKyTUrvfdYUmTs/viewform?usp=send_form

Sign-In Procedures How to sign in Procedures to follow after signing in (Report to 3rd grade class, take student to media center for session, return student to class when finished, complete comment card after each session.)

Contact Information How will you notify the employee if student is absent? How should the mentor notify the school if they are absent? (Example: more than 24 hours= contact teacher via email, less than 24 hours= contact front office secretary and they will pass on the message) Share school calendar with important dates to remember such as field trips, assemblies, testing calendar, etc. Suggestion: Have department members sign in with their name and email so that a secretary or school personnel can create an email list incase of a cancellation or emergency in which a principal has to contact all mentors.

Emergency Procedures Who to contact in the case of an emergency? Crisis Plan Tornado Drill Fire Drill Where do you go with a student in case of those emergencies?

Behavior Plan What happens if a student becomes violent or defiant?
