3  Requirements were passed recently by the State of Arizona and must be adhered to by all persons working in any public or charter school  ARS 15-534 G any person who participates in a state teacher preparation program approved by the state board shall obtain:  A valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card (This needs to be done within the first 3 weeks of class) AZ State Laws!!!

4  Field Experience Provides Interns With The Opportunity To:  Participate in Instruction  Assist with classroom organization  Evaluate some learning experiences  Prepare some materials for instruction  Engage in discussions regarding classroom rules and school policies  Complete assignments for the methods portion of your course Why Field Experience? Finally…To evaluate your interest in Teaching

5  To be completed by both the student and supervisor  Includes the following:  PC Information  Student Information  Site Information  Student’s Duties  Days and Hours for visits  Supervisor/Mentor Teacher signature Volunteer Teacher Aide Site Placement Form

6 This form confirms you understand the possible risks included with your field experience and ultimately Phoenix College is not responsible This includes: – Risk of Program Activities – Institutional Arrangements – Independent Activity – Health and Safety – Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Must be signed and turned in to Instructor Experiential Education Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability

7  One of the most important documents within this course!  During each day of your field experience, you are required to fill out (completely) and have it signed by your mentor teacher.  It is extremely important you critically think and address each question on the log sheet and elaborate as much as possible.  A signature from your mentor teach is required for each log sheet to validate your hours and field experience in the classroom Field Experience Log Sheet

8  Needs to be filled out completely by your mentor teacher/facility supervisor for the completion of your hours  This form is essential for not only our evaluation, but for self evaluation as a lifelong learner!  This document will go into your portfolio Field Experience Final Student Evaluation

9 The following questions will make your transition into the classroom easier!!! Where should I park? Where do I sign in? Who should I call if I am going to be absent or late? What is the phone number? May I call you (mentor teacher) at home? What is your home phone number? If not, may I have your email address to contact you? Do you have any special considerations or unwritten rules that I should take into consideration? Do you participate in any extra-curricular activities at school? May I observe and/or participate? What Do I Need To Know Before I Start?

10 May I have a tour of the building and/or campus? When would be a good time? Will you introduce me to the principal, secretary, nurse, etc.? When would be the best time each week for us to get together just to talk about teaching? What Do I Need To Know Before I Start? Cont.

11 Participate as a volunteer teacher aide for a minimum of 10 hours Describe and evaluate the experience of being a volunteer teacher aide. As a teacher’s aide: – Your responsibilities and role will develop from the needs of the teacher and students – You will gain exposure to a classroom and school environment – You will develop working relationships with professional staff – You will perform your required hours – You will observe classroom management techniques Volunteer Teacher Aide Information
