Weatherization Assistant Update (Version 8.3) Michael Gettings Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Platform Requirements  Dropped support for Windows 95 and 98  Added conditional Vista support –Only NEAT operates under Vista ( ) –Help utility requires additional download from Microsoft –Have limited history of operation on Vista machines

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Adds specification of wall stud depth

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Evaluates insulating wall cavities with existing batt, blanket, or board insulation  Adds R-49 attic and R-38 floor insulation measures  Adds specification of floor joist depth

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Reformatted Foundations data input form

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Extended user-defined insulation types

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Adds fuel switching for fossil fueled heating equipment

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Evaluates replacing electric heating systems –With other electric resistance heaters –With heat pumps

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Evaluates installation of heat pump with no existing AC

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Evaluates installation of heat pump replacing existing window ACs

NEAT Version 8.3 Changes  Treats kerosene heating systems the same as oil systems  Allows space heater replacement to eliminate secondary heating systems  Fixes bug associated with replacing space heaters

MHEA Version 8.3 Changes  Considers window descriptions individually for retrofit recommendations  Adds window sealing (“Weatherize”) measure  Adds “Retrofit Option” field to window form

MHEA Version 8.3 Changes

 Modifies heating system tune-up measure, decreasing efficiency increase as existing efficiency increases (similar to NEAT)  Provides separate costing of measures applied to mobile home and addition

8.3 Changes in NEAT & MHEA  The “Assigned To” field on the Audit Information tab is no longer required  Drop-downs with only one possible selection are automatically filled in  When creating a new blank audit, the Client ID is no longer filled in by default

8.3 Changes in NEAT & MHEA

 Provide “Additional Cost” fields for each window retrofit option

8.3 Changes in NEAT & MHEA  Allows viewing adjusted refrigerator consumption estimate without evaluating replacement

WA General Changes  Application opens with window sized for 1024x768 resolution  Data sheet views are no longer persistent  Increased number of reports with alternate data sheet view for exporting results to spread sheet
