Mascot: Panther Colors: Blue, Silver, and Black Motto: Eyes on Excellence Reopened: August, 1997 History Ms. Emma Ousley Emma Ousley was born in Fort Worth in 1906 and graduated from Pascal High School. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from North Texas Teachers College, majoring in English. Just months after her death in 1956, Arlington High School moved from the corner of Abram and Cooper to its present site on Park Row and Cooper. The old site was converted to a junior high and renamed Emma Ousley Junior High School. Ousley Junior High was Arlington's very first junior high school. In 1968, it was sold to the University of Texas at Arlington for campus expansion. Friends, family and former students of Emma Ousley Junior High were excited to have the opportunity to establish a commitment to educational excellence which Emma Ousley exemplified.

Eyes on Excellence School Mascot and Colors * The panther is our mascot. Our school colors are black, royal blue, and silver. School Spirit * Every Wednesday we wear school colors to show your panther spirit. * Encourage and support all of Ousley’s extracurricular activities. Encourage all to help develop POSITIVE TRADITIONS for Ousley students to follow for years to come. Maintenance and Care of Ousley Junior High School * It’s your school. We encourage each student to take pride in their building * Ousley students deposit their litter appropriately and to pick up trash that they see in and around the building. * Students should also encourage their peers to have pride in the building.

Personal Equipment * Should be locked up at all times (books, bikes, etc.) DO NOT GIVE YOUR LOCKER COMBINATIONS TO ANYBODY! * Electronics are only allowed before and after school. Electronics that are out at any other time will be picked up and turned in to the assistant principal in accordance with our school discipline plan. Exception: BYOT * Students are expected to park their bikes upon entering the campus grounds. * Skateboards/Roller blades are not allowed on campus during school hours. Cafeteria * Students may come into the cafeteria before school at 8:20 for breakfast only. On inclement weather days, students will be permitted to enter the cafeteria earlier. Next slide

All students are to report to the cafeteria for lunch. Students are expected to remain in the cafeteria until teacher/cafeteria monitors indicate that students may leave the cafeteria to go outside. How to handle an Absence * Have your parents call the school by 10:00 the day of the absence or present a note within 24 hours for the absence to be excused. * Identify a “buddy” in each class who can give you homework assignments over the phone. Tardies * Definition of a tardy – A student is tardy if they are not in the classroom with materials when the bell rings.

Snack Machines * Ice cream may be purchased after school. Items purchased at other times will be confiscated and not returned. ** Use at your own risk. THE OFFICE WILL NOT REFUND LOST MONEY! Office Phones * The office telephones may only be used before and after school. If students need to make an “emergency” call during the school day or during lunch, they must receive permission from office personnel. Hallways * Students are not allowed in the halls before, during and after school without a hall pass. * No candy, drinks, or food of any kind are allowed in the hallways or classrooms. You may put lunches and/or drinks in your locker in the morning and carry the closed container to the cafeteria at noon.

Clinic * You need a pass from your teacher to go to the clinic. * Students are not allowed to carry ANY type of medication (including aspirin) with them unless proper forms are on file in the office. Counselors Procedures for seeing a counselor 1. Students must have a pass from their teacher before the counselor will see them. 2. If a student has been with the counselor and comes to class tardy, he/she will have a pass from the counselor. 3. Appointments may be made to the counselor before or after school. Closed Campus * All junior high schools have a closed campus. You cannot leave the campus during the lunch hour. * Only parents or guardians are allowed to visit students during lunch after they have checked in with the office. * A parent may only bring lunch for their child (per state law).

Pledge of Allegiance * The Pledge of Allegiance, State of Texas Pledge and “moment of silence” will be apart of our daily announcement routine. Elevators * Only students who have obtained an elevator pass from the clinic or office may use the elevator. Loitering * All students must be out of the building or be under the supervision of a teacher by 4:05 PM. * The faculty parking lot is off limits to students at all times.

School Dances * For Ousley students only * All school rules will be enforced at the school dance, including dress code and ID. * Once students enter the building, students are not permitted to leave until the dance is over unless a parent comes to the door to escort them out. The “Front Drive” Entrance Please remind your parents that our front parking and drive is ONE WAY. Ask them not to stop in the drive-thru lanes. The “Back Patio” Entrance Please remind your parents that all car riders are dropped off and picked up in the back only. Buses * Buses will drop off and pick up students in the front of the building. They will leave promptly at 7 minutes after the dismissal bell. ONCE THE BUS HAS STARTED ROLLING, IT WILL NOT STOP FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE TRYING TO CHASE IT DOWN!

Dress Code Have students review the school district’s dress code located in the Student Code of Conduct or student planner. Dress code violators will be sent to the office for an office-issued change of attire. REMEMBER: Students must wear ID’s everyday
