How did you attract/address your audience?

Our target audience is Males between 15 and 24. Due to this we have certified our film as a 15. We have chosen our mise-en-scene specially to appeal to this audience, for example using young actress’ and listening to audience research when choosing location ect. We are also aiming the film at middle-class people because this group are proven to be most likely to go to the cinema more. Our film has a Niche audience because it appeals to a smaller section of the larger market of, ‘horror fans’. This is due to our production being a low budget/ slasher horror.

We have used the Uses and Gratification – Needs Model, personal needs. To help our film relate and address our target audience. We have used teenage actress’ as they would be in the same age bracket as our target audience. This makes our victim relatable and means the audience can have more of a connection with the character. The setting of the dining room also creates a sense of normality in the strange setting of the hunt scenes. Ultimately our target audience are people who enjoy a trilling film that will scare them, that is why we have chosen to make our opening two minutes as scary and as tense as possible, through the use of low key lighting, quick paced editing and our choice of music. We have tailored are film around the information gathered from our target audience changing things when necessary, (for example the location). Because of this I believe we were successful in creating a film that our target audience would enjoy by a mixture of conforming and challenging codes and conventions leading to a piece which is well within their preferred genre but still having some unpredictable surprises.
