If you are going to be a…  Sophomore  Looking for Alaska by John Green  The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain  Junior  The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson  The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver  Senior  Paper Towns by John Green  Ishmael by Daniel Quinn Note: Honors students read BOTH titles for their year. AP Students have separate titles of their own

 You must read a second book over the summer…but you can choose any book that appeals to you!  You can use the Reavis website to help you browse titles  Go to Reavis webpage  Click on “Services” and then on “Library”  Click on “Find Books”  Click on any of the various links to book list websites

 Assigned Title:  Will be assessed with a test (and perhaps other assignments) when you return to school. If you want help preparing, there is an optional study guide on the Reavis website that you can fill out to help guide your reading.  Independent Title:  Complete a project to demonstrate your understanding of the story/characters from the independent reading book you chose.  Your teacher will distribute the project assignment sheet to you, plus it will be on the Reavis website all summer.  There are 12 projects to pick from— choose one.  This project is due on the FIRST day of school—August 15 th.

 Honors:  Read both assigned titles  Choose one independent title and complete one project for it.  AP:  Juniors: Read Thank You for Arguing by Jay Heinrichs & The Rise and Fall of the American Teenager by Thomas Hine  Seniors: Read How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster & Macbeth by William Shakespeare + Although AP students are encouraged to read choice novels over the summer, they are not required to complete a project. See the Summer Reading link on the Reavis website for your AP Summer Reading assignments.

 Receive your assigned summer reading title from your current English teacher.  Choose another book to read over the summer.  Go to our website if you need ideas for good books.  You can buy the book online, go to a book store, or check it out from a library  Read your books  Choose one project to complete for your Independent book, and be ready to take a test and complete assignments about your assigned title when you get back.

 On the FIRST day of school ALL students will be expected to turn in their completed Independent Reading projects.  Summer reading will count for 15% of your six week grade.  The project explanation and any other information regarding summer reading will be on the Reavis website by June 1 st.
