The Plan 1 st 2 years – complete requirements for associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Kilgore College 2 nd 2 years – complete requirements for Bachelor of Applied Arts & Science (EC-4) from Texas A&M University in Texarkana

Schedule over 4 years Fall and Spring –Tuesday and Thursday evenings –4:30 – 5:45 & 6:30 – 9:00 –Two classes each evening (4 per semester) Summer – Four to five days per week –8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (depending on courses offered)

Starting Out Attrition – from 35 to 25 –Financial Aid didnt come through –TASP test was too difficult –Change of heart –Expectations were too much

New Hurdles Financial problems –Tuition –Educational Aide Exemption problems –Textbooks

New Hurdles Math –Area of most concern –Students have different levels College Algebra Developmental Math 0308, 0306, 0304 –THEA test –Hired tutor for struggling students

Recruiting New Scholars Invite all aides from LISD and HISD for recruitment meeting, Oct. 7 Deadline – Oct. 21 Interviews – Oct. 22 – Oct. 29 Registration of new and old scholars set for 1 st of November.

All PET Scholars Pass THEA test for 0308 or College Algebra. Signed Superintendent Agreement form Attend all classes enrolled in.

Better than Traditional Model Hybrid Telecourse in History and Government. Work and adult experiences count for ½ of Early Childhood Labs. Classes are close to home and in same room. Quasi-Cohort format

Concerns Bachelor degree plan has yet to be approved by Higher Ed. Coordinating Board. Attrition rate continued to rise. Math contributing to the attrition rate.
