Highbury College Outstanding Showcase Event Welcome to the Departments of:- Health and Early Years Hair, Beauty, Sport and Public Services Ofsted GRADE ONE DEPARTMENTS This is an insight into our journey to raise the standard to Outstanding provision.

The student journey Open evenings, school partnerships, careers fairs Personal interviews with subject specialist teachers Initial assessments in Literacy and Numeracy Workshops – practical sessions Summer School Programme induction

Personalised Learning Regular meetings using individual support needs (ISN’s) to identify the most appropriate and effective way forward. Working with learning mentors Learning assistants included in the lesson plan and lessonlesson plan Group profile-know the student as an individual

Assessment for Learning Health and Early Years Lessons provide opportunities for assessment including self and peer assessment. Hair and Beauty Target setting in the workshop. Example ABC

Partnerships Close collaboration with agencies help to develop relevant learning programmes: Local schools Community organisations NHS trusts Employers Collaborative working provides exceptional support for vulnerable students, enabling them to continue their learning.

Ofsted 2011 – Quote from report “Students have developed good employability skills through lessons, while staff are keen to ensure that college also has a positive impact on the choices they make in their personal lives.” For example : “students are now equipped with the skills to cook healthier meals at home”. “students develop very good employability, skills adhering to professional dress codes and displaying high levels of customer service and practical skills”.

Celebrating Success Many students start their journey at Entry level and progress through the levels. Many gain employment, while others choose to progress to University.
