© CITB CSCS Scheme Changes In-Company Training Schemes

© CITB CSCS Scheme Changes Encourage development of a trained and qualified UK construction workforce All site workers to hold the right CSCS card for the work they undertake Construction contractors and clients to understand and maximise potential benefits a qualified, smart-carded workforce can bring to their business Site managers and supervisors to carry out more rigorous on-site checks using smart technology Aims of CSCS

© CITB CSCS Scheme Changes Requirement for a QCF Single Unit Level One Award to obtain a Green Card for Labourers Introduction of a red Apprentice Card Introduction of a red Provisional Card CRO card ‘clean up’

© CITB CSCS Scheme Changes Since July 2014 green card applicants must now achieve a new level one qualification - Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Award (or a recognised equivalent – more information is available on the CSCS website)CSCS website Green cards have been renamed:

© CITB CSCS Scheme Changes ‘Health and Safety in a Construction Environment’ Award Developed by CSCS’s Card Management Committee, whose members are drawn from across industry Content developed by CITB and set at a standard which demonstrates a labourer’s knowledge and understanding of basic construction site safety issues Key factor was balancing content with affordability

© CITB CSCS Scheme Changes Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Award Covers five key areas –Principles of Risk Assessment –Safe Manual Handling –Working Safely at Height –Risks to Health –Working Safely around Plant and Machinery

© CITB CSCS Scheme Changes Cost of training and assessment will be dependent on existing knowledge, experience and training time needed Can be delivered in several ways including on the job training, computer based courses, workbook and classroom delivery Training and Assessment

© CITB Details of equivalent training courses along with details of training providers are shown on the CSCS website. Follow link to “Green Card Changes” and then go the “Frequently Asked Questions” CSCS Website on CSCS Scheme Changes

© CITB Further changes ongoing Apprentices registered on a framework apprenticeship can now obtain a specific Apprentice card that is valid for up to 4 years CSCS Scheme Changes Construction Related Occupations (CRO) being reviewed - where a qualification now exists cardholders will be redirected to the right card when their CRO card is due to expire CSCS is working towards removing the proliferation of card colours – by the end of 2016 the intention would be for all cards to be a single colour. Cards would have limited information printed on them and the only way to carry out card checks will be to read them using the smart chip

© CITB In-Company Training Scheme (ICTS)

© CITB The In-Company Training Scheme has been developed by the CITB Specialist Federation Support team to support sectors of the construction industry when there is a qualification in place for certain roles but no training provision to support the achievement of the qualification other than that provided by the employers themselves.. In 2014 we delivered a limited pilot scheme to test out the concept and can now offer a scheme tailored to the Road Planing sector. The scheme is to support the achievement of the NVQ for Road Planer Operatives, there is also a similar scheme in place for Road Paver Operatives. In-Company Training Scheme (ICTS)

© CITB It is available to any employer who is registered with and pays levy to CITB. The training will still be carried out by the employer but he will receive some further financial support for their work in carrying out the training. Currently the only CITB grant available is the NVQ Achievement Grant of £400 per candidate. Any employer registering an employee for the NVQ and entering into the scheme will receive an additional £800 in total when the achievement obtained to support the cost of assessment In-Company Training Scheme (ICTS)

© CITB The scheme is open to employees that are new to the specific roles but not necessarily new to the company. Operators who are already experienced but do not hold the NVQ have to been assessed in the normal way. In-Company Training Scheme (ICTS)
